JUST THE MAC FACTS

What is grass fed cheese?

Grass Fed cheese is made from cows that eat grass as their primary source of feed. But wait, “Don’t all cows eat grass?” you might ask. Modern farming practices typically utilize predominantly corn and grain as feed (1). Grass feeding contributes to many benefits (see next question to learn more!) – all the more reason to get nudged with organic grass fed mac & cheese!

What are the benefits of grass fed?

Grass fed is better for the environment, the cows and the nutritional quality of dairy- feel good about bringing nudge into your home.

Cows that graze on grass create manure on the pastures, which is a natural, sustainable fertilizer. We believe in helping our planet, and if that means grass feeding – we’re in!

A cow’s stomach is pH neutral, the perfect environment for digesting grass (2). A diet based on corn and grains can turn the cow’s stomach acidic, causing the cow distress (2). Grass feeding contributes a better digestive environment for the cow.

The primary health benefit of grass feeding is that the omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acid ratio of grass fed dairy is significantly improved compared to conventional dairy (3). This ratio promotes more health benefits from omega-3, the healthy fats!

Why isn’t your gluten free mac & cheese organic and grass fed?

The nudge team set out to create a great tasting gluten free variety of our white cheddar shells. In order to meet the high standards that you have for the food you bring into your home without nudging cost, we decided to first ensure that we were sourcing ingredients safe for those with Celiac Disease or gluten intolerances to consume. While we’d love to offer a grass fed gluten free variety, we felt a safe product at a more affordable cost would allow more gluten free lovers to #getnudged.

What is annatto?

Annatto is a plant extra that is used as a natural colouring for foods such as cheese. Our orange cheddar mac & cheeses get their bold orange colour from annatto.

The pasta for each flavour of nudge is unique. Our orange cheddar mac & cheese comes in two great pastas: organic wheat elbows and organic whole wheat with flax elbows. Did you know flax contains fibre and omega-3 fatty acids? And that grass fed dairy is also higher in omega 3s than other dairy? Together, these ingredients support healthy digestion and brain health, giving you the power to achieve those mighty dreams!
